Sun
source, authority, life
The giver of light and the natural emblem of kingship — the thing all else orbits.
- Instances
- Ra · Surya · Helios · 日 (“day” and “sun” in one mark)
- The flip
- Source and destroyer, and which one dominates appears to track the latitude. Where water is scarce the sun is the thing that kills — noon is the dangerous hour, the wax melts, the crop fails — while in the north the same body is almost unambiguously benevolent. An archetype whose valence may be set less by culture than by climate: the clearest case on the site of a flip with a material cause.
