Optical Character Recognition
11 assigned characters, 100% of them in a Symbol category.
Eleven characters, the smallest symbol block in Unicode, and the only one whose intended reader is not a person. These are the control marks of OCR-A and the E-13B font printed along the bottom of a bank cheque — shapes designed so that a machine could tell them apart, at a time when machines could barely tell anything apart. They are in the character set because the humans maintaining the systems needed to write about them.
